Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,689 head July 14, compared to 680 head last week and 2,630 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, attractive quality feeder lambs sold steady to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes sold steady. Receipts were about 80% feeders, 13% slaughter ewes, 3% replacement ewes and the balance was bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats. Buyer demand was good for all classes.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 9 head, 49 lbs., 159.00; 11 head, 57 lbs., 148.50; 12 head, 60 lbs., 148.00; 72 to 78 lbs., 137.25 to 142.50 (140.71); 34 head, 74 lbs., 138.25 Black face; 139 (81 to 88 lbs., 128.50 to 133.75 (132.47); 29 head, 86 lbs., 128.75 Horns; 91 to 98 lbs., 129.75 to 131.25 (130.83); 16 head, 97 lbs., 125.75 Black face; 25 head, 96 lbs., 109.50 Buck lambs; 100 to 109 lbs., 122.00 to 127.50 (125.89); 5 head, 104 lbs., 105.50 Black face; 110 to 116 lbs., 115.00 to 122.50 (119.83); 121 to 126 lbs., 105.00 to 111.50 (110.57) Black face; 11 head, 125 to 126 lbs., 87.00 to 90.00 (89.18) Buck lambs.

Feeder lambs: Medium frame 1 and 2, 13 head, 76 lbs., 126.75.

Slaughter ewes: Shorn, 80 head, Good, Yield grade 2 to 3, 171 lbs., 42.25; 19 head, Good, Yield grade 2 to 4, 183 lbs., 37.50; 48 head, Utility, Yield grade 1 to 2, 146 to 150 lbs., 36.50 to 40.00; 45 head, Cull, Yield grade 1, 137 lbs., 35.50. Wooled, 13 head, Utility, Yield grade 1 to 2, 161 lbs., 33.50.

Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, open, white face, per head, 14 head, yearlings, 163 lbs., 201.00; 37 head, yearlings, 135 lbs., 197.50; 7 head, 3 to 4 years old, 197 lbs., 90.00.

Aged bucks: 16 head, fleshy 254 lbs., 29.25.
