No kidding: Goat has quadruplets

EGYPT, Ark. (AP)--Goats normally have no more than two young at a time, so Scott and Tim Turner were understandably surprised when they found one of their herd of Boer goats had given birth to quadruplets.

It is that time of year at the Buckshot Ridge Boer Goat Farm.

"We had nine babies born since Saturday (Jan. 16)," Tim Turner said.

Since the female goat usually has only two teats, having four young to feed will put a hardship on the mother. The Turners will help out with bottle feeding for the four, which were born Jan. 16.

The mother is known as "Yellow Tag No. 10."

"Boer goats are the most desirable of the meat goats," Tim Turner said.

Tim Turner said this was the first time they've had four born and have been told that a quad birth in the Boer breed is a rare occurrence.

The new quartet of kids was evenly split between females and males. They have the typical brown head markings of the Boer breed and have brown patches on other areas of their bodies.

Tim Turner said his father actually owns the goats and he helps him out.

"He spends a lot of time on the Internet and has a lot of books on Boer goats," Turner said of his father.

The father and son have several kinds of chickens, some guinea fowl and a few dogs at their place.
