The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Feb. 19, totaled 5,425 head, compared to 9,500 head last week and 6,600 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher at the Wyoming auctions, except feeder steers over 600 pounds were steady to $1 lower. Direct feeder steers were steady to $2 lower and heifers were steady. Direct trade was slow. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer and seller inquiry was moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 49% of the supply, heifers 51%, with 95% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2140 head of the total receipts.
