"Winning the game" grain marketing workshopNebraska Marketing has always been a part of farming, but agriculture has changed dramatically over the past few years and producers are learning it's now a whole new ball game. There are new rules, new players and, most of all, new tools. To help farmers reorganize opportunities to price grain and manage risk, University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension has developed a program titled "Winning the Game". These workshops, being offered throughout the state this winter, will include a discussion of forward pricing and crop insurance. The focus of the workshops will be a market simulation game using actual prices and yields that will give participants practice marketing their grain. A "Winning the Game" workshop is scheduled for March 10 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Country Kettle in Sidney at 284 Illinois Street. There is a $10 fee for the program to cover the cost of food and workshop materials. Registrations are due March 3. For more information, contact Karen DeBoer, Extension Educator, at 308-254-4455 or toll-free at 1-866-865-1703. The workshop is jointly sponsored by the Women in Agriculture: Pocketing Change for Posterity Conference committee in cooperation with University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension and the Nebraska Soybean Board. For information on the statewide "Winning the Game" program, contact University of Nebraska Project Specialist Jill Kruger at 402-472-5740. Date: 2/23/05
