West Plains regional stockyard sales

The Ozark Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 4,500 head Feb. 22, compared to 3,667 head last week and 4,969 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 700 pounds were mostly steady, with several bunches 5 weight steers sold $1 to $2 higher, weights over 700 pounds sold $1 to $3 lower. Heifers were steady to $2 lower, however most decline noted on lesser quality 400- to 500-pound heifers. The supply was moderate, even though there were several thin or weaned consignments, for the most part, quality was not as attractive as last week. The supply consisted of 52% steers and 48% heifers, with nearly 33% over 600 pounds.
