Upper Maquoketa and South Fork Maquoketa meeting plannedIowa Residents in the Upper Maquoketa and South Fork Maquoketa River watersheds are invited to attend a joint meeting hosted by the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) and the South Fork Maquoketa River Water Quality Project to learn more about manure nutrient use on the farm and in the Maquoketa watershed. The meeting, to be held March 1, at 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall in Aurora, will cover a variety of topics, including the profit potential of manure nutrients applied to cropland and the creation of a watershed-wide "nutrient trading directory" made up of farmers with available manure nutrients to be paired with farmers in need of fertilizer. Speakers include John Vossberg, a pork producer and chair of the IPPA Environmental Committee; Chad Ingels, Manure and Nutrient Management Specialist with Iowa State University Extension; Tom Sperfslage, Environmental Specialist with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, as well as representation from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The meeting is free and is open to the public. For more information, contact Tom Sperfslage at 563-422-3868 or the IPPA at 800-372-7675. Date: 2/23/05
