St. Onge sales report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 2,002 head Feb. 18, compared to 449 head last week and 1,622 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Due to light receipts the last two weeks, trends on feeder cattle not applicable, although a definite higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows sold steady with last week. A large offering of slaughter bulls sold steady with two weeks ago. They were scarce last week. A large crowd on the seats for the bred females and replacement heifers. Demand good for all classes offered. Feeder receipts included 51% steers and 49% heifers, with 59% over 600 pounds. Receipts were about 79% feeders, 13% bred females, 3% slaughter cows, 3% slaughter bulls and 2% females back to the country.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 457 to 481 lbs., 136.50 to 140.50 (139.98); 503 to 538 lbs., 128.00 to 139.00 (131.75); 568 to 596 lbs., 121.50 to 127.00 (123.41); 612 to 644 lbs., 113.50 to 120.00 (116.54); 660 to 661 lbs., 111.00 to 113.00 (112.53); 677 to 699 lbs., 101.50 to 103.00 (102.40) fleshy; 713 to 724 lbs., 104.25 to 106.00 (104.80); 773 to 798 lbs., 98.50 to 101.50 (100.93); 56 head, 875 lbs., 98.85 fleshy. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 6 head, 450 to 455 lbs., 132.00 to 134.00 (133.01); 8 head, 583 to 590 lbs., 114.00 to 118.00 (116.49); 10 head, 613 to 627 lbs., 106.50 to 107.50 (107.20). Large frame 1, 7 head, 807 lbs., 97.00; 6 head, 832 lbs., 90.00 fleshy. Medium frame 2, 5 head, 372 lbs., 140.00 thin.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 446 lbs., 135.00; 470 to 486 lbs., 127.00 to 132.00 (129.56); 70 head, 472 lbs., 140.00 light flesh; 509 to 534 lbs., 121.00 to 123.00 (122.05); 562 to 599 lbs., 110.50 to 115.50 (113.52); 550 to 590 lbs., 116.75 to 122.00 (117.83) replacement; 603 to 634 lbs., 105.00 to 110.50 (108.94); 8 head, 645 lbs., 115.00 replacement; 669 to 699 lbs., 100.00 to 105.25 (103.08); 661 to 696 lbs., 111.75 to 121.00 (116.32) replacement; 6 head, 715 lbs., 95.50; 9 head, 876 lbs., 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 5 head, 487 lbs., 110.00; 8 head, 510 to 530 lbs., 118.00 to 125.00 (120.56); 9 head, 608 to 610 lbs., 103.00 to 107.50 (106.00); 9 head, 703 to 718 lbs., 94.50 to 95.50 (95.17). Medium and large frame 2, 12 head, 391 lbs., 126.00 thin.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1253 to 1700 lbs., 55.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 61.00; low dressing, 51.00 to 54.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1445 lbs., 55.00 to 58.00; high dressing, 59.00; low dressing, 49.50 to 54.50.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, heifers, 760 to 833 lbs., 84.50 to 91.50; 947 to 1060 lbs., 82.00 to 84.50; 2 years old, 845 to 1065 lbs., 69.50 to 78.00; heiferettes, 1065 to 1210 lbs., 62.50 to 69.50.
