Southeast Iowa Wind Energy Conference to be held March 2

Iowa

The Southeast Iowa Wind Energy Conference will be held on March 2 at the Washington County Conservation Education Center at Marr Park. The conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Washington County Conservation Education Center is located three-quarters of a mile west of Ainsworth on Highway 92.

This conference will give you a chance to evaluate wind energy and explore the potential of this renewable form of energy.

"This conference will be of interest to farmers, industry owners, school officials and residential owners who have continuous electrical needs and want to generate their own power," said Greg Brenneman, Iowa State University (ISU) Extension ag engineering field specialist.

The conference speakers include Bill Haman from the Iowa Energy Center, John Pearce with the Iowa Utility Board, wind turbine dealers, utility company representatives, Tom Miller with USDA Rural Development, and a swine producer who uses a wind turbine. Wind energy basics, grants and zero interest loans for wind generators, and the current pricing structure for connection to the power grid will be discussed.

The conference is sponsored by ISU Extension, Washington Economic Development Group, Louisa Development Group, Geode RC&D, and the USDA Rural Development.

The registration fee, including lunch, is $10 for those registered by Feb. 28. Registrations after Feb. 28 will be $15. Registrations will be taken by Washington County Extension, 209 S. Marion Ave. Washington, 52353 or by calling 319-653-4811 or 877-435-7322.
