Southeast Colorado Bull Test reaches 77 day markColorado The 50 bulls in the 31st Annual Southeast Colorado Bull Test were weighed Feb. 8, completing 77 days on test. Overall the average daily gain of the bulls this year is 3.37 pounds per day. With an average age of 340 days and weight of 1011 pounds, the average weight per day of age is 2.98 pounds. Five bulls are gaining over 4 pounds per day. Topping the list, gaining 4.48 pounds per day, is an Angus bull owned by Anetta's Angus, Springfield, Colo. This March 16 son of McPherson's G 5228 has gained 345 total pounds on test and is posting a 3.17 pounds per day of age gain. The second highest gaining bull is a Salers bull out of JCN Smokin Joe 8 K, gaining 4.13 pounds per day. J & M Salers, Fountain, Colo., are the owners of this March 25 bull. The J & M Salers, Smokin Joe bull also has the highest weight per day of age, having gained 3.61 pounds per day of age. Second in this category is another Salers bull owned by J Open A partnership, McClave, Colo., out of BEV Masterpiece 110 H. This 346 day old bull has gained 3.43 pounds per day of age. Feed conversions are averaging 7 pounds of feed per pound of gain for the 77 day feeding period. This is indicative of the cold, wet weather we have been having this year. The top gaining group of bulls is the six Polled Herefords who are gaining and average of 3.57 pounds per day for the feeding period. Final weights will be taken on March 13 and 14. Sale date for the 31st Annual Southeast Colorado Bull Test, "Weigh Better Bulls", is April 7, at Trail City Livestock, Holly, Colo. All bulls offered for sale will have ultra-sound data, pass a breeding soundness examination, and have tested negative persistently infected BVD.
