Seize the moment at NJSA leadership conferenceThe National Junior Swine Association will hold its fourth-annual national youth leadership conference in Champaign, Ill., on April 29 to May 1. The theme for this year's conference is "Seize the Moment." Youth ages 14 to 21 will be challenged to make the most of their opportunities in life while broadening their knowledge of important swine industry issues. Keynote speaker Andrew McCrea of Maysville, Mo., will captivate conference participants with his fun, inspirational, motivating programs drawn from his experiences as a farmer and rancher from northwest Missouri and as a four-time Oscar-winning radio broadcaster. An exciting group of speakers and topics are slated for the conference including, "A Judge's Perspective on the Swine Industry" with swine judges Grant Grebner, Brian Hines and Andy Rash; "Pork Quality--Meeting the Consumer's Demand" with Jim Altemus of Meadowbrook Farms Co-op, Curt Zehr of Zehr Farms, and Dr. Tom Carr of the University of Illinois; "National Animal ID and Your Swine Project" with Dick Jurgens; an NJSA Board Alumni panel with Jesse Heimer, Daniel Hendrickson and Molly McCormick, and more. In addition to these speakers, youth will tour the University of Illinois Meats Lab, Hi Point Genetics, Inc., and Prairie State Semen, Inc. As well, youth will participate in workshops organized and planned by the NJSA Board of Directors. Applications are due to the NSR office by April 6, 2005.
