Salina cattle sales notes

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 4,821 head Dec. 15, compared to 1,717 head last week and 3,793 head last year, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, feeder steers weighin 350 to 750 pounds and heifers weighing 350 to 600 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Steers weighing 750 to 950 pounds were $1 to $2 lower, and heifers weighing 600 to 900 pounds were $1 lower with few last week to compare. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 77% 600 pounds and over, 23% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply was 66% steers and 34% heifers.
