OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 1,316 head Dec. 21, compared to 3,896 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week at OKC West, all classes lightly tested. Feeder steers and steer calves were mostly steady. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 higher. Heifer calves were $7 to $10 higher. Demand was very good for all classes. Quality was average to attractive. Though supplies were light several nice drafts of feeders included. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady to $1 higher. Packer demand was good. A total of 72 cows and bulls sold with 33% going to packers. The supply consisted of 70% over 600 pounds, 15% under 600 pounds, 5% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 40% of feeder and calf supply.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, few 500 to 550 lbs., 131.00 to 138.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 115.50 to 123.00; 725 lbs., 113.00. Yearlings, 565 lbs., 132.00; 695 lbs., 123.00; 775 to 800 lbs., 113.75 to 115.00; 800 to 875 lbs., 112.00 to 114.25; load 1000 lbs., 106.25. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 695 lbs., 115.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 111.00 to 112.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 440 to 475 lbs., 133.00 to 144.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 121.00 to 134.00; few 695 to 725 lbs., 109.50 to 109.75. Yearlings, 600 to 675 lbs., 111.00 to 117.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.75 to 110.50; package 830 lbs., 106.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaker, 6 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 52.50 to 54.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 47.00 to 51.00. Boners, 5 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1300 to 1800 lbs., 50.50 to 51.00; high dressing, 54.50. Lean, 5 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1775 lbs., 48.00 to 49.50; low dressing, 40.50 to 45.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 8 head, 1650 to 2475 lbs., 59.00 to 62.50; high dressing, 63.00 to 72.50; low dressing, 56.00 to 61.00.
