New herbicide registered with application flexibility

Bayer CropScience, Research Triangel Park, N.C., recently announced the registration of IGNITE 280 SL Herbicide. This new, more concentrated formulation will replace the current IGNITE herbicide and improve grower's efficiency by reducing product volume and handling requirements.

IGNITE 280 is fact-acting, non-selective contact herbicide developed specifically for use with FiberMax LibertyLink Cotton and provides control of more than 100 major cotton weeds and grasses, including morningglory, palmer pigweed, hemp sesbania, marestail and devil's claw.

Use rates will now come with two different weed height recommendations so the user can better choose the rate that is right for his weed control needs. Additionally, there will be a lower rate structure due to the higher concentration of active ingredients in IGNITE 280.

The old rates of 32 ounces and 40 ounces per acre will now be 22 ounces and 29 ounces, meaning less product handling for growers. IGNITE 280 will be available in 2x2.5's and a new 200-gallon mini-bulk shuttle that will treat up to 1,160 acres.

The IGNITE 280/LibertyLink Cotton System, with FiberMax LibertyLink Cotton and IGNITE 280 herbicide is a proven choice for glyphosate-tolerant weeds.

Several cotton production states have requested a supplemental label to allow growers to apply the herbicide at a higher rate. The Arkansas State Plant Board is one state that has granted IGNITE 280 a 24(c) special local needs label for cumulative seasonal use rates up to 87 ounces and a maximum single application rate of 43 ounces. This will allow growers to deal with glyphosate-tolerant weeds and those that have grown larger than the normal recommended heights.
