McAlester livestock auction report

The McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,400 head Dec. 20, compared to 1,800 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were steady to $2 higher on light receipts. Good attendance of buyers and active on trade. Quality was mostly average. Cattle were in thin to fleshy conditions. Receipts were comprised of 38% steers, 55% heifers with 20% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were mostly steady on very light year-end numbers. There was a good attendance of buyers, with 35% receipts to packers. A total of 200 cows and bulls sold with 35% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 300 to 340 lbs., 161.00 to 170.00 (164.75); 9 head, 350 to 385 lbs., 153.50 to 160.50 (154.99); 12 head, 400 to 430 lbs., 140.00 to 150.50 (143.28); 8 head, 455 to 490 lbs., 130.00 to 140.50 (135.01); 19 head, 510 to 538 lbs., 123.00 to 131.00 (125.60); 12 head, 550 to 590 lbs., 120.00 to 126.50 (121.87); 12 head, 610 to 635 lbs., 115.00 to 119.00 (117.13) calves; 8 head, 660 to 685 lbs., 110.50 to 114.00 (113.24) calves; 9 head, 710 to 742 lbs., 109.00 to 113.00 (112.43) calves; 12 head, 788 to 796 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00 (109.59) calves; 9 head, 805 to 809 lbs., 107.00 to 111.50 (110.00). Boners, 20 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1485 lbs., 47.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.50 to 55.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.50. Lean, 20 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1275 lbs., 46.50 to 50.00; high dressing, 50.50 to 55.00; low dressing, 42.50 to 46.50. Light, 20 head, 85 to 90% lean, 840 to 955 lbs., 40.00 to 44.00; high dressing, 47.50 to 49.50; low dressing, 35.00 to 38.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 15 head, 1425 to 1900 lbs., 59.50 to 62.50; low dressing, 55.50 to 59.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 5 years old, 1050 to 1250 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, high quality 1060.00 to 1100.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 6 years old, 900 to 1075 lbs., with 250- to 275-lb. calves, average quality 975.00 to 1075.00.
