In Kansas the hay trade is moderate to active. Demand is strong for dairy and grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets, good for stock cow quality hay, prairie hay and brome, moderate for grass mulch, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Dec. 20. Southwest:
Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady to higher. Movement active. Horse alfalfa, in small squares: $120-$160; supreme dairy: $110-$130; premium: $90-$110; good: $80-$95; fair: $70-$90. Utility/fairy grinding alfalfa, in the field: $70, ground and delivered: $85-$90, new contract: $90. For the week ending Dec. 10, 16,762 tons of grinding alfalfa and 2,113 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered.
South central:
Dairy/grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets steady to higher. Movement active. Horse alfalfa, in small squares: $135; supreme dairy: $110-$125; premium: $100-$115; good: $80-$105; fair: $70-$80. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, in the field: $45-$55, ground and delivered: $65-$80. For the week ending Dec. 10, 5,908 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,971 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein: $100-$103, 17% protein: $110-$114; dehydrated, 17% protein: $130-$132. Good sudan, in large bales: $40-$50.
Southeast:
Alfalfa, brome and prairie hay steady to firm. Movement active. Horse and goat alfalfa, in small and medium squares: $100-$120; supreme dairy: $100-$120; premium: $95-$105; good: $80-$90; fair: $80. Fair bluestem, in small squares: $45-$60; good: $60-$75, in medium and large squares: $55-$65, in large rounds: $40-$55.
