Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Aug. 20, totaled 12,800 head, compared to 5,525 head last week and 5,450 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were not well tested at the Wyoming auctions. Demand was moderate for limited supplies. Direct feeder steers not comparable, heifers were mostly steady. Direct was active. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate. Offerings were moderate to heavy. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 68% of the supply, heifers 32%, with 86% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 12,650 head of the total receipts.

Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 425 lbs., 142.50 September; 470 lbs., 140.00 October; 560 lbs., 124.00; 635 lbs., 117.70 delivered; 650 lbs., 115.00; 650 lbs., 119.00 October delivered; 730 to 765 lbs., 111.35 to 113.35 delivered; 835 lbs., 114.00; 850 to 875 lbs., 104.00 to 113.00; 850 lbs., 106.50 to 108.00 September; 900 to 930 lbs., 107.00 to 108.00; 925 lbs., 103.35 delivered; 1000 lbs., 95.00.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 360 lbs., 134.00; 730 lbs., 106.00; 850 to 875 lbs., 99.25 to 103.00; 965 lbs., 95.00; 1050 lbs., 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 595 lbs., 104.00.
