OKC West cattle salesThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 3,372 head Aug. 24, compared to 3,053 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers sold $1 to $2 higher. Feeder heifers were steady in a limited test. Demand was very good for feeder cattle. Feeder cattle continue to sell above the projected breakeven, but light supplies of feeder cattle continue to drive the demand. Steer calves were steady to $2 higher. Heifer calves were steady. Calf demand was good. Quality was mostly average. Feeder cattle in slightly thin to moderate flesh conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Packer demand was moderate. Demand was very good for replacement cows and pairs. A total of 220 cows and bulls sold with 32% going to packers. The supply consisted of 81% over 600 pounds, 13% under 600 pounds, 6% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 22% of feeder and calf supply.
