The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,000 head April 19, compared to 2,241 head last week and 1,930 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers sold $2 to $6 higher, although several light steer calves under 400 pounds were $10 to $12 higher. Heifers sold uneven, generally steady to $2 higher, except 450- to 550-pound heifers were $2 to $4 lower, however, 550- to 650-pound heifers sold $2 to $3 higher. The supply was moderate. Demand was good to very good. Markets started off fairly active and then turned fairly waspy, however, heifer buyers did get through a little easier than did their steer-buying counterparts. The supply consisted of 51% steers and 49% heifers. Nearly 19% weighed over 600 pounds.
