April is National Soyfoods Month. To mark this occasion, the Nebraska Soybean Board is bringing two soyfood cooking classes titled "Soyfoods You too Can Do" to the Omaha area. These sessions are free and open to the public. The classes are for anyone who might be interested in incorporating soy into their diet in a quick and easy manner.

The two-hour classes will be held at the following locations and times and will feature simple soyfood recipes, cooking demonstrations and taste sampling of locally available soy products.

--April 21: Methodist College, 8501 W Dodge Rd. at 6 p.m.

--April 22: NU Cooperative Extension-Douglas County Office, 8015 W Center Road at 10 a.m.

Heart disease is the leading killer of both males and females of all ages in the United States. Soyfoods are a source of high-quality protein and the FDA has stated that consuming just 25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.

If you are one of the many Nebraskans that want to protect your heart by simply incorporating soy into your diet, come learn how quickly and easily it can be done. Yes, even by you! Some sessions require registration in advance. To register or inquire about the soyfood sessions please call 1-800-852-2326.

Nebraska Soybean Board members are responsible for administering the state's share of the one-half of one percent national check-off on soybeans produced in Nebraska. The funds are invested in research, marketing and promotion projects for soybeans.
