OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 6,715 head April 20, compared to 5,181 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week at OKC West, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower, with a decline on 700-pound steers and 600-pound heifers. Demand remains good. Limited numbers of stockers were steady. Steer and heifer calves were steady to $2 lower. Demand was moderate at best for fleshy unweaned calves but good for light fleshed stockers. Conditions of feeder cattle not as attractive as last week with less thin fleshed light weight feeders and many more heavy weight feeder cattle. Quality was average to attractive. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 lower. Packer demand was good. Demand remains good for bred cows and pairs. A total of 220 cows and bulls sold with 44% going to packers. The supply consisted of 87% over 600 pounds, 10% under 600 pounds, 3% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 42% of feeder and calf supply.

Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 600 to 635 lbs., 119.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 109.25 to 112.50; 800 to 875 lbs., 100.00 to 105.75; 900 to 950 lbs., 95.00 to 96.50. Medium and large frame 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 138.00 to 155.00; 425 to 500 lbs., 125.00 to 135.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 105.50 to 108.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 96.75 to 101.50; 950 lbs., 95.00; 1100 lbs., 85.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 525 to 575 lbs., 112.50 to 117.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 105.50 to 106.50; 745 to 765 lbs., 100.00 to 102.50; 965 lbs., 91.50. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 118.00 to 124.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 111.00 to 115.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 102.50 to 106.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 97.50 to 103.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 93.50 to 97.25.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 37 head, 70 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1650 lbs., 54.25 to 57.00; high dressing, 57.50 to 59.00; low dressing, 54.00 to 54.75. Boners, 19 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 54.00 to 56.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 61.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 53.50. Lean, 15 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1350 lbs., 50.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 46.00 to 48.25.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 20 head, 1400 to 2300 lbs., 66.00 to 69.50; high dressing, 72.00 to 75.00; low dressing, 62.50 to 65.50; very high dressing, 82.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, heifers, 950 to 1075 lbs., 2 to 7 months bred, high quality blacks, 920.00 to 960.00; 2 to 5 years old, 1200 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred, high quality blacks, 1000.00 to 1060.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 6 months bred, average quality, 785.00 to 880.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1050 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average quality, 750.00 to 840.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 2 to 3 years old, 850 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 175-lb. calves, average quality black, 1140.00 to 1180.00; 6 to 8 years old, 1050 to 1350 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, average quality, 1075.00 to 1175.00; 9 to 10 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 275-lb. calves, average quality, 1065.00 to 1100.00.
