VeraSun Ft. Dodge celebrates ethanol ground breakingIowa VeraSun Energy celebrated the ground breaking for its new dry mill ethanol plant near Ft. Dodge, Iowa, recently. The American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) congratulates VeraSun Ft. Dodge on this milestone. "VeraSun's state-of-the-art facility will create millions of dollars in economic activity locally, statewide, and within the U.S. economy as a whole," Brian Jennings, ACE executive vice president, said. "Its developers, management team, employees, and Webster County should be very proud." VeraSun Ft. Dodge will process 40 million bushels of local corn into 110 million gallons of ethanol annually. The plant was designed by ICM, Inc. of Colwich, Kan., with Fagen, Inc. of Granite Falls, Minn., serving as the general contractor. "Ethanol production in this country adds more than three billion gallons of clean-burning fuel to our nation's supply, which is critical in these times of high-priced crude oil and tight supply," Jennings said. "Not only is ethanol advantageous for agriculture and economic development, it is a serious, immediate way to do something about our dangerous dependence on foreign oil." This year, the U.S. will produce nearly 3.5 billion gallons of ethanol. More than a dozen ethanol plants are under construction. In 2003, the nation's plants produced a record 2.81 billion gallons of the fuel, up from 2.12 billion gallons the previous year. Iowa is the nation's leading ethanol-producing state. Date: 9/22/04
