St. Joseph feeder pigsThe St. Joseph feeder pig auction, St. Joseph, Mo., Sept. 14, reported 200 head, according to the USDA Market News Service, St. Joseph, Mo. Compared to last week, feeder pigs weighing under 40 pounds sold $7 to $10 higher. Heavier pigs traded mostly steady. The sharply higher trend on the lightweight pigs was partially due to the ideal condition of those on hand. Also, recent availability of pigs weighing under 50 pounds has been limited. However, demand was good for all weights this week, including those over 40 pounds. Prices paid per head on actual weights. U.S. 1 to 2: package, 38 lbs., 47.00; 50 to 60 lbs., 55.00 to 57.00. U.S. 1 to 3: 20 to 25 lbs., 34.00 to 36.00; 30 to 40 lbs., 45.50 to 49.00; package, 49 lbs., 50.00. U.S. 2 to 3: package, 42 lbs., 36.00; package, 50 lbs., 48.00.
