Society For Range Management to host 2005 meeting in TexasTexas Fort Worth, Texas, is the site of the 2005 Society for Range Management (SRM) 58th annual meeting, Feb. 5 to 11. Operating under the theme of "Rangeland Trails Under The Lone Star", the local meeting planners, led by Dan Caudle and George Peacock, are developing a wide ranging program of pre-conference workshops, tours, and a set of diverse technical sessions. SRM invites members, non-members and interested individuals to attend the annual meeting. "Fort Worth developed as a destination and stop-over point along the historic cattle trails in the early days of Texas," says Caudle. "We have retained that Cowtown culture and are using the trail drive theme for our many sessions." Peacock adds, "We'll explore the diverse uses of rangelands and follow trails of thinking in range management that have emerged over the years. We'll look at divergent views of rangeland use and find ways to converge our efforts to support the health of rangelands worldwide." The SRM annual meeting generally draws an international audience of rangeland and resource managers, landowners, conservationists and wildlife managers and from academia, government agencies and allied industries. Nearly 2,000 people attend each year's meeting, which are held in various cities in the United States, Mexico and Canada. At the 58th annual meeting in Fort Worth, technical sessions will focus on the interaction of diverse disciplines and issues relevant to the management of rangeland and resources. The plenary session will present topics ranging from land fragmentation due to urban sprawl and the ranchette phenomenon to landscape-scale riparian restoration to how rangelands have influenced the music heritage of the cowboy. This session will be presented by Michael Martin Murphey, who will perform at the Grand Opening Extravaganza in Fort Worth's famed Bass Performance Hall. Reserved seat tickets to this event will be provided free to the first 2,000 registrants for the 58th annual meeting. Education, entertainment and professional fellowship with international colleagues are part of the 2005 event.
