OSU to host tree care issues workshopOklahoma Gardening enthusiasts who are looking for cutting-edge information regarding proper tree care should make plans to attend an informative workshop that will be hosted by Oklahoma State University's Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Tree Care Issues will take place Nov. 3 at the Oklahoma State University Botanical Garden located west of Stillwater. The workshop is geared toward arborists, nursery professionals, urban foresters, landscape managers, landscape architects, Master Gardeners, related professionals and advanced hobbyists. The information offered at the workshop will be the latest, cutting-edge information available, said Mike Schnelle, Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service ornamental/floriculture specialist. "We have a host of professionals who will be sharing their expertise while conducting the informative workshops," Schnelle said. "Individuals who attend will go home with a lot of new information, and the care practices they'll learn will be applicable to all varieties of trees that are suitable to Oklahoma and surrounding states' climate and growing conditions." The workshop will be team-taught by OSU faculty and industry professionals. The keynote speaker is Dr. George Ware, professor emeritus, Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Ill. Schnelle said Watson will address two topics, including transplanting issues, as well as elm species for Oklahoma and surrounding states. Other topics will range from tree preservation to Geographic Information Systems applications in the urban forest. "There will be a number of provocative concepts offered in a short period of time," Schnelle said. "The group we have assembled to share their expertise guarantees that attendees will go home with sound and practical advice." Early registration is $50 and must be postmarked by Oct. 25. Extension educators, Master Gardeners and OBGA members may pre-register for $35. Students who are interested in participating in the workshop may pre-register for $25. (Copy of student ID is required). Registration for everyone after Oct. 25 will be $80. Seating is limited and early registration is encouraged.
