OKC West cattle sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 3,869 head Sept. 22, compared to 4,233 head last week and 4,600 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week at OKC West, feeder steers were steady, heifers were steady to $1 higher, with the exception of steers and heifers over 800 pounds selling steady to $2 lower. Calves were $4 to $5 lower. Demand was good for lightweight yearlings, moderate for heavy weight yearlings and calves. Calf prices are lowering as the poor weaning conditions of October nears. Feeder cattle in mostly medium conditions, with a few thin fleshed yearlings. Weigh-ups were average. Quality was mostly average, with a few attractive yearlings. Slaughter cows were $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1.50 lower. Packer demand was moderate. A total of 121 cows and bulls sold with 44% going to packers. The supply consisted of 75% over 600 pounds 25% under 6 weight, 3% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 41% of the feeder and calf supply.

Yearlings, 545 lbs., 120.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 118.00 to 123.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 112.50 to 120.00;800 to 850 lbs., 112.00 to 113.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 106.50 to 113.50; 900 to 950 lbs., 106.00 to 106.50; 975 to 1005 lbs., 99.50 to 101.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 550 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 112.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 111.00 to 113.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 106.00 to 109.00; 900 to 950 lbs., 100.00 to 102.00. Medium and large frame 2, calves, 375 lbs., 144.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 112.00 to 128.00; 550 to 575 lbs., 105.00 to 113.00; 625 to 700 lbs., 105.00 to 107.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 105.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 100.00 to 102.50.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, 490 lbs., 97.00; 540 lbs., 90.00; 600 to 660 lbs., 85.50 to 92.00; 740 lbs., 85.00; 825 to 850 lbs., 80.00 to 85.00; 920 lbs., 80.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 400 to 500 lbs., 115.00 to 130.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 110.50 to 118.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 106.00 to 110.00; 695 lbs., 107.00. Yearlings, 650 to 700 lbs., 112.50 to 113.50; 760 lbs., 109.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 104.00 to 108.75; 900 to 920 lbs., 100.00 to 101.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, calves, 400 to 500 lbs., 112.00 to 120.00; 615 lbs., 103.00. Yearlings, 700 to 750 lbs., 106.00 to 107.00. Medium and large frame 2, calves, 300 to 400 lbs., 125.00 to 127.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 107 to 116.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00; 600 to 625 lbs., 101.00 to 103.00. Yearlings, 595 lbs., 113.50; 625 to 700 lbs., 105.00 to 106.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 100.00 to 102.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 101.00 to 102.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 8 head, 70 to 80% lean, 1300 to 2025 lbs., 53.50 to 56.50; high dressing, 60.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 52.50. Boners, 9 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1600 lbs., 54.50 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.50; low dressing, 51.00 to 53.00. Lean, 9 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 53.50 to 54.50 to 47.50 to 52.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 9 head, 1500 to 2300 lbs., 67.50 to 70.00; high dressing, 73.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 66.00.

Replacement cows: 3 years old, 1200 lbs., 3 months bred, average to high black, 990.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1150 to 1350 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, average quality, 850.00 to 900.00; 10 plus years old, 1200 lbs., 5 months, average blacks, 750.00.
