Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 3,672 head Sept. 9, compared to 4,405 head last week and 1,869 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week feeder lambs weighing 50- to 60-pounds, and 70- to 90-pounds sold $1 to $2 higher. The other weights mostly $1 to $2 lower. Most of the offering lacked the bloom and freshness of last week's offering. Good and Utility slaughter ewes sold steady and Cull ewes mixed with Utility sold $6 higher. Receipts were about 77% feeder lambs, 21% slaughter ewes and the balance was open ewes, slaughter bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 39 head, 43 lbs., 141.25; 51 to 54 lbs., 133.00 to 146.50 (145.00); 63 to 67 lbs., 129.00 to 136.50 (131.97); 16 head, 68 lbs., 127.50 dirty; 71 to 78 lbs., 123.50 to 130.75 (128.36); 80 to 89 lbs., 114.50 to 121.75 (119.09); 94 to 97 lbs., 105.25 to 108.25 (106.89); 100 to 107 lbs., 100.75 to 103.50 (102.70); 30 head, 108 lbs., 100.25 fleshy; 42 head, 119 lbs., 94.75; 14 head, 110 lbs., 92.00 black face; 126 to 128 lbs., 91.50 to 92.25 (91.86); 11 head, 120 lbs., 88.50 horns.

Slaughter ewes: 193 head, Good, Yield grade 2 to 3, 165 to 170 lbs., 42.25 to 43.50; 79 head, Good Yield grade 2 to 4, 203 lbs., 41.00; 365 head, Utility Yield grade 1 and 2, 145 to 162 lbs., 42.00 to 43.00; 85 head, Utility and Cull Yield grade 1 and 2, 132 lbs., 42.75.

Replacement ewes: Open whiteface, Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 10 head, solid mouth, 180 lbs., 82.00.

Aged bucks: 18 head, fleshy, 186 to 236 lbs., 37.50 to 38.50; 5 head, fleshy 290 lbs., 36.50.
