Wyobraska cattle sale news

Untitled

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Oct. 16, totaled 15,300 head, compared to 15,500 head last week and 19,700 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at the Wyoming auctions, steer and heifer calves sold steady to $3 higher, with instances of $4 to $5 higher, yearlings not well tested on limited test. Demand was good especially for preconditioned calves. In the direct feeder cattle trade there were not enough comparable sales from last week for a good market test. Direct trade was slow. Demand was moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry were moderate. Yearling supplies were limited. Calves remain in strong hands. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 58% of the supply, heifers 42%, with 27% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2400 head of the total receipts.
