World Ayrshire event a huge successThe only way to describe the enthusiasm at the 2004 World Ayrshire Event sale was "contagious". That's right--from the moment the first Ayrshires hit the tanbark earlier in the day at the World Dairy Expo, the buzz around the ring was uplifting. The quality of the animals in the show and those selected for the sale was huge, and certainly didn't go unnoticed by those in attendance. The sale was held Sept. 30, in Madison, Wis. The 15 live animals averaged $3,993 with the overall average of the sale $3,888. A crowd favorite, and the high-seller at $15,000, was Mackayr Chelsey, the first place 4-year-old and honorable mention grand champion of the show. Sired by Moy-Ayr Olympic 2 Mason, she was the supreme champion of the 2004 Illinois State Fair and is projected over 22,000M this lactation. She was recently classified EX-90. "Chelsey" was consigned by Steve McDonald, Princeton, Ill., and purchased by the Chelsey Syndicate, Epworth, Iowa. The second high-seller at $5,400 was drafted after the show, after great deliberation (and sacrifice) from her owners. Cool-Ayr Kellogg Roxette had many admirers as she was the first place Winter Yearling and reserve junior champion of the show. She was consigned by Steve McDonald, John Langel and David Coolidge, Princeton, Ill. "Roxette", sired by Blackaddar B B Kellogg, was purchased by Karen Funk and William Coleman, Winthrop, Iowa. Third in the line-up of high sellers was Bonnie Brae Tamara, who sold for $5,000 to Kim Clark, Springville, Pa. Sired by Blackaddar B B Kellogg, "Tamara" was sought after for her outstanding pedigree. A full sister to the well-known Canadian bull Bonnie Brae Garth, she is due in December to Palmyra Tri-Star. Her dam is classified EX-96 3E with All-Canadian titles to her credit. She was consigned by Linsey Smith, Smyrna, Tenn. Another favorite of the day was Stillmore BBBK Klassy who sold for $4,900 to Dr. Doug Evans, Georgetown, N.Y. After placing second for fall heifer calves, the largest class of the day, "Klassy" was drafted for the sale from her owners Steve and Vicki Searles, Pine Island, Minn. She is sired by Blackaddar B B Kellogg. The record crowd in attendance filled the sales pavilion to a standing room only capacity. Sale attendees were treated to a social hour sponsored by the Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and Mid-West Ayrshire clubs. Ayrshire cheese donated by Jasper Hill Farm, Andy and Mateo Kehler of Greensboro, Vt., and Hancock Hill Farm, the Evangelista Family of Barre, Mass., was the featured hors d'oeuvre. The World Ayrshire Event was sponsored by the Ayrshire Breeders' Association and managed by the Association's Marketing Committee. Lynn Lee of Smyrna, Tenn., was the auctioneer while Brian Schilling, Boggstown, Ind., read pedigrees. Doug Murray, Toulon, Ill.; Dru Mercer, Bryant, Ind.; and Dave Koss, Epworth, Iowa, served as ringmen. Date: 10/18/04
