Tulsa cattle sales reportThe Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 4,994 head Oct. 18, compared to 2,809 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were $2 to $4 higher. Exceptions to to trend were lightweight steers that were $1 to $3 lower. Quality was fair to attractive. There was strong demand on all classes with good attendance of buyers. Calf trade really heating up with improving Wheat pasture conditions in the west. Cattle in fleshy to medium condition, with average weigh-ups. Receipts were comprised of 56% steers, heifers 40%, bulls 5%, with 18% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady to $1 lower. Packer demand was moderate with quality fair to average. A total of 504 cows and bulls sold with 45% going to packers. Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 26 head, 1025 to 2050 lbs., 63.00 to 68.00; high dressing, 69.00 to 70.00; low dressing, 57.00 to 62.00. Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 3 to 4 years old, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, average quality, 820.00 to 825.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1025 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 750.00 to 900.00.
