Springfield cattle sales report

The Springfield Livestock Market Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,975 head Oct. 20, compared to 2,580 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers were uneven, but mostly steady, Holsteins were steady, with the exception of those under 400 pounds were $2 to $3 higher and over 800 pounds were $2 to $3 lower. The demand and supply were moderate. Fed Cattle and feeder cattle futures all closed on the down side, putting pressure on the feeder cattle and calf trade. The supply included 42% steers, 15% Holsteins, 39% heifers, 5% bulls, with 26% weighing over 600 pounds.
