The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported sales of 3,670 head Oct. 14, compared to 1,770 head last week, and 3,906 head last year, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, 300- to 650-pound feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $4 higher compared to last week's light receipts, 650- to 950-pound steers were $1 to $2 lower, and there weren't enough 650- to 850-pound heifers last week for comparison. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 77% 600 pounds and over, 22% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows. The feeder supply consisted of 70% steers and 30% heifers.
