Organic livestock production satellite conference set for Oct. 29Nebraska University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension will host a satellite conference on organic livestock production at five sites Oct. 29. The Organic Livestock: Principles, Practices and Prospects conference, originating from Washington State University, will air from noon to 2:30 p.m. Central Time (11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mountain Time) at the Knox County Extension Office, Center; the West Central Research and Extension Center, North Platte; the Agricultural Research and Development Center, Mead; Gage County Extension Office, Beatrice; and the Panhandle Research and Extension Center, Scottsbluff. The conference will include experts in organic livestock production from Oregon and Washington. Topics will include basic background on organic livestock production; trends and opportunities, as well as barriers and challenges; animal health care; living conditions and housing; and post-harvest handling, processing and marketing. Question-and-answer sessions are planned, too. The conference is free, but participants are asked to preregister by Oct. 26 by contacting their local site. Date: 10/20/04
