OKC West cattle sale notes
The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,899 head Oct. 20, compared to 2,786 head last week and 4,694 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.
Compared to last week at OKC West, feeder steers were $2 to $4 lower. Feeder heifers were $1 to $3 lower in a light test. Demand was moderate for feeder cattle that were mostly plain in quality,. Calves were $2 to $8 higher. Demand continues very good for calves. Calves were quality, average, few attractive. Feeder cattle were in medium to moderate flesh. Calves were in medium to many in fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full. Slaughter cows were $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were steady. Demand was moderate to good and improved for packer cows. Demand was good for replacement cows. A total of 560 cows and bulls sold with 38% going to packers. The supply consisted of 54% over 600 pounds, 35% under 600 pounds, 11% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 40% of feeder and calf supply.

Boners, 67 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1550 lbs., 49.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 57.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 49.50. Lean, 65 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1350 lbs., 48.50 to 51.00; high dressing, 51.00 to 54.50; low dressing, 41.00 to 47.50. Lights, 14 head, 70 to 90% lean, 800 to 950 lbs., 47.00 to 51.00; low dressing, 38.00 to 45.00.
Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 14 head, 1375 to 2300 lbs., 64.00 to 65.00; high dressing, 67.50 to 69.00; low dressing, 58.00 to 63.00.
Replacement cows: 7 years old, 1100 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average blacks, 720.00 to 750.00; 7 to 9 years old, 1100 to 1350 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 700.00 to 740.00; 1050 to 1200 lbs., 2 to 4 months old, average quality, 600.00 to 700.00; 10 years old, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality, 500.00 to 615.00.
