Lexington cattle sale notes

Untitled

The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Neb., reported sales of 3,550 head Oct. 15, compared to 2,200 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Kearney, Neb.

Compared with two weeks ago, calves trended steady to $3 higher. With no recent yearling market for a comparison, a trend will not be given. Demand for calves was moderate to very good on the precondition calves. Calves with preconditioning shots brought as much as a $6 to $10 premium over the same quality calves without shots. Demand on the yearlings was outstanding. Offerings consisted of an ample supply of steers and spayed heifers with the bulk having weigh-in conditions and flesh scores in the buyers' favor. Buyer attendance was very good, coming from as far as Iowa. Steers accounted for 42% and heifers 58% of the feeder cattle offerings, with 65% weighing over 600 pounds.
