West Plains cattle sale newsThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 1,100 head Nov. 23, compared to 4,000 head last week and 2,565 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers calves under 450 pounds sold $6 to $10 lower, over 450 pounds were $2 to $6 lower. Heifers under 600 pounds were $2 to $6 lower, over 600 pounds were steady to $2 lower. Although only a limited test on most classes and weight ranges. The supply light, as several producers held calves back awaiting results of latest inconclusive BSE finding, which has created some uncertainties in the feeder market. Demand was light to moderate. Live futures closed sharply higher, however, direct cattle trade was inactive to slow on light demand. Not enough sales for an adequate market test. Live sales last week traded at $83 to $85, and dressed sales at $131 to $135. The supply consisted of 55% steers and 45% heifers, with nearly 25% over 600 pounds.
