TDA has soy rust exemptions approved for useTexas While soybean rust has been confirmed in Louisiana, Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs said recently that the Texas Department of Agriculture has already secured exemptions for products to control thedisease. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved six products under Section 18 quarantine exemption in July. They expire March 1, 2007. Soybean rust is caused by two fungal species, Phakopsora pachyrhizi and Phakopsora meibomiae, and is spread primarily by wind-borne spores that can travel long distances. For more information, visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture's soybean rust page, www.aphis.usda.gov/lpa/issues/sbr/sbr.html. The products approved include: --Propiconazole, formulated as Tilt, Propimax and Bumper; --Myclobutanil, formulated as Laredo EC and Laredo EW; and --Tebuconazole, formulated as Folicur. All applicable directions, restrictions and precautions on the EPA registered product labels, as well as restrictions within the EPA approval notices, must be followed. Applications will be made only by certified applicators, by licensed applicators or by persons under the direct supervision of licensed applicators. Date: 11/24/04
