TAMU parks and recreation department receives national honorTexas Texas A&M University's department of recreation, park and tourism sciences has received the William P. Mott Jr. Award for Organizational Excellence. The award is presented for accomplishments in the field of recreation, parks and service to the National Society for Park Resources. The award is "a tremendous honor," said Dr. Joe O'Leary, department head. "It is rarely given to an organization. It represents a very significant national recognition for the excellent and exciting efforts undertaken in the department by our faculty, staff and students." The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in the field of recreation, parks and service to the National Society for Park Resources. The award is presented annually, either to four eligible recipients or two agencies or organizations. Areas considered include policy development, administration, public affairs, physical planning/design, program, finance, research, education, inter-governmental relations and volunteerism.
