Newell sheep sale newsSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,586 head Nov. 18, compared to 1,960 head last week and 2,920 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs sold mostly $3 to $5 higher, with instances of $7 higher on 70 and 80 weight lambs. Slaughter ewes were mostly steady, except thin ewes sold $4 higher. Receipts consisted of 75% feeder lambs, 15% slaughter ewes, with the balance being bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats. No auction next week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 34 head, 55 lbs., 140.00; 61 to 63 lbs., 140.00 to 142.25 (141.28); 70 to 79 lbs., 131.00 to 142.50 (138.23); 80 to 88 lbs., 124.25 to 138.00 (128.39); 93 to 99 lbs., 112.00 to 121.00 (117.04); 107 to 109 lbs., 109.00 to 110.50 (110.30); 114 to 118 lbs., 102.25 to 105.00 (104.75). Slaughter ewes: 53 head, Good, Yield grade 2 and 3, 164 lbs., 44.75; 21 head, Good Yield grade 2 to 4, 194 lbs., 46.00; 197 head, Utility Yield grade 1 and 2, 144 lbs., 44.00; 104 head, Cull Yield grade 1, 138 lbs., 43.00. Aged bucks: 31 head, fleshy, 249 to 286 lbs., 35.25 to 38.75; 10 head, medium 223 lbs., 29.25. Date: 11/24/04
