Letter critical of conservatives offends corn-growing readerLaundry list of Larry Mitchell, as an officer in the American Corn Growers Association, and a "blue state wanna be," is playing fast and fancy with the term "conservative" in his comments in the Nov. 22 issue (Page 4-B). It is insulting how he equates one who is of conservative bent with all of the enemies of this country over the last 226 years, including the likes of Hitler. It's no wonder he slashes the National Rifle Association. Particularly insulting is his statement about the "separation of church and state." The election is still warm and he has already forgotten--or he, like so many liberals, just doesn't get--the critically important role morals and ethics played in Bush's re-election. I'm sick of hearing "separation of church and state" used when referring to keeping religion out of government. Dragging out the old "separation of church and state" business would indicate to me a disregard for Christian values in our leadership, a lack of understanding of the Constitution or both. And in this vein, let it be noted that a founding father stated to paraphrase, "the Constitution is made for a Christian and moral society, and it won't work unless this is so." How many of you have even heard this statement? Given the lock the mainstream secular media has on us, it's no wonder. Upon reading Mitchell's laundry list of how conservatives are messing everything up, it is obvious his values and job satisfaction would be infinitely better served were he to land a job with Green Peace or the Sierra Club. Concomitantly, as well as mercifully, he would disassociate himself from me and other rural, corn-growing conservative Americans. --Ed Beason, Chetopa, Kan., Date: 11/23/04
