Youthville hosts annual "Cowboys For Kids" celebration

Kansas

It is time for Youthville's 11th annual Cowboys For Kids, a fundraiser for Youthville's Farm and Ranch/Dodge City Campus Programs, scheduled for June 5. Youthville has partnered with the Dodge City community and Cowboys For Kids will be one of the events during the Kansas Cowboy Symposium celebration, June 4 and 5 in Dodge City.

Cowboys For Kids will be fun-filled day starting with a mid-morning trail ride through Dodge City's back country followed by a western style lunch at Fort Dodge Park. Prize winners will be announced following lunch, and then it's back in the saddle to experience an authentic cattle drive. The cattle drive will come to an end at the Dodge City Roundup Arena where both riders and horses will enjoy cool refreshments.

Cowboys For Kids participants will have the opportunity to win great prizes by collecting donations. The fundraiser collecting the most donations over $500 will win a Billy Cook roper saddle, hand tooled with silver inlay (retail value of $1,600). Additional prizes will be awarded to the top five fundraisers.

Youthville has a residential campus for youth ages 10 to 18 in Dodge City offering two different levels of care. More than twelve years ago, volunteers and community leaders developed a unique addition to the Dodge City campus--a working farm and ranch program for children. The Farm and Ranch Program at Youthville in Dodge City provides positive benefits to youth in a farm setting.

"Our Farm and Ranch Program has been successful in large part because of the type of environment it is and because of the opportunities for kids to get involved and care for the life and well-being of another living creature," said John Francis, president and CEO of Youthville.

The Kansas Cowboy Symposium is a celebration promoting the Kansas cowboy heritage and lifestyle to historians, western lifestyle enthusiasts, out-of-state visitors and the people of Kansas. Organizers are planning a weekend full of historical presentations, cowboy poets, great chuck wagon food and much more.

For more information on how to sign-up (pre-registration for Cowboys For Kids is requested) and ride the Wild West call 800-593-1950, ext. 8126.
