Youth sustainable agprogram applications available Iowa Young Iowans interested sustainable agriculture are invited to apply for funding from the Iowa 2004 Youth Sustainable Agriculture Program. This program provides opportunities for Iowa youth through 12th grade (as of 2004) to increase their knowledge of sustainable agriculture. This may involve studies, demonstrations, or simple research on farms or in towns, in gardens, with livestock, natural resources (soil, water, wildlife, trees, air). The project should be completed by late 2004. Each project chosen will be provided $250. Money can be used for program materials, supplies, labor and reference materials. The completed four-page application may be mailed, e-mailed, hand-delivered or faxed. All entries received by 5 p.m., June 1 will qualify for the program. A committee of judges from across the state will select 10 projects for funding. All applicants will be notified of results on June 2. Winning applicants will be required to provide a one-page report on their project activities, lessons learned and conclusions to ISU Extension by Dec. 31, 2004. The program us sponsored by the North Central Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (SARE) and Iowa State University Extension.
