Wyobraska cattle sales

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending May 1, totaled 7,800 head, compared to 6,950 head last week and 4,500 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold $2 to $4 higher with instances of $7 higher on heifers weighing 550 to 700 pounds. Direct trade was slow to moderate with demand moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry light to moderate. Steers not comparable, few comparable heifers $2 higher. Available supplies becoming very limited in the country. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 61% of the supply, heifers 39%, with 88% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 4800 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 520 to 565 lb., 104.00 to 106.00; 625 lbs., 109.00. Medium frame 1 and 2, 410 lbs., 108.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 700 lbs., 100.00; 725 lbs., 103.50 delivered May; 730 to 750 lbs., 102.50 to 104.00 delivered; 825 to 840 lbs., 92.50 to 98.00; 825 to 900 lbs., 93.00 to 95.00 delivered; 850 to 900 lbs., 93.00 to 95.00 September; 875 lbs., 93.00 October to September.
