Wyobraska cattle sale notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Apil. 24, totaled 6,950 head, compared to 3,800 head last week and 4,800 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers at the auctions weighing under 700 pounds sold steady to $1 higher, weights over 700 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Direct trade slow with demand moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry light to moderate. Not enough comparable sales for a market test, few heifers steady on 800 pound weights. Available supplies becoming very limited in the country. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 28% of the supply, heifers 72% with 71% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 3550 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 360 lbs., 116.00; 465 to 490 lbs., 110.00 to 112.00; 520 to 565 lbs., 107.00 to 113.75; 640 lbs., 105.50. Medium and large frame 2, 500 lbs., 99.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 525 lbs., 115.00.
