Woodward cattle sales report

The Woodward Livestock Auction, Woodward, Okla., reported receipts of 10,716 head May 7, compared to 8,884 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1.50 to $3 higher, and feeder heifers were $2 t $5.00 higher. Steer and heifer calves were in limited test. Demand was very good for all classes. Fill was average to full. Quality was average to plain, end attractive. Slaughter cows were $1 higher, and slaughter bulls were steady. The supply was comprised of 63% steers, 36% heifers with 94% over 600 pounds. A total of 74 cows and bulls sold with 52% going to packers.

Boners, 220 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1600 lbs., 52.50 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 45.50 to 49.75. Lean, 139 head, 85 to 90% lean, 850 to 1300 lbs., 51.25 to 53.00; high dressing, 54.00 to 56.50; low dressing, 47.25 to 49.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 28 head, 1375 to 1925 lbs., 63.25 to 65.50; high dressing, 67.50 to 68.50; low dressing, 60.50 to 61.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 7 years old, 1125 to 1175 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 760.00 to 810.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1050 to 1100 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality, 700.00 to 740.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, average to high quality blacks, 1080.00 to 1120.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1000 to 1125 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, average quality blacks, 880.00 to 900.00; 7 to 9 years old, 1000 to 1125 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, average quality, 860.00 to 930.00.
