Woodward auction notes

The Woodward Livestock Auction, Woodward, Okla., reported receipts of 10,300 head May 14, compared to 10,716 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1.50 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers were firm to $3 higher. Steer and heifer calves were steady. Demand was very good for all classes. Fill was average to full. Quality was average to plain, with end attractive. The supply was comprised of 60% steers, 40% heifers with 94% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. A total of 996 cows and bulls sold with 61% going to packers.

Boners, 310 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1650 lbs., 51.50 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 57.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 50.00. Lean, 257 head, 85 to 90% lean, 850 to 1200 lbs., 51.00 to 53.00; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.50; low dressing, 47.00 to 49.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 34 head, 1500 to 2100 lbs., 63.00 to 65.00; high dressing, 67.75 to 69.00; low dressing, 58.50 to 61.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1425 lbs., 3 to 4 months bred, high quality blacks, 890.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1125 to 1150 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality, 680.00 to 780.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1075 to 1175 lbs., 2 to 4 months bred, average quality, 670.00 to 720.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 6 years old, 1200 to 1250 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, average quality blacks, 1070.00 to 1110.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1025 to 1150 lbs., with 125- to 250-lb. calves, average quality, 930.00.
