West Plains cattle sale notes
The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipt of 4,200 head May 11, compared to 3,205 head last week and 2,817 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson, City, Mo.
Compared to last week, steers under 700 pounds were steady to $2 higher, with 400- to 500-pound steer calves $2 to $4 higher, with a limited supply over 700 pounds mostly steady. Heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $3 higher, with the majority of bloomy 400- to 600-pound heifers calves $3 to $5 higher, few sales over 600 pounds steady to weak. Supply was moderate. Demand was very good. The supply included 55% steers and 45% heifers, with nearly 28% over 600 pounds.
