U.S. to appeal WTO Wheat rulingWASHINGTON (DTN)--The U.S. government will appeal a recent World Trade Organization decision on a complaint against the the Canadian Wheat Board, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick said April 28. Zoellick told Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-ND, at a House Ag Commitee hearing the administration had decided to appeal the decision after considering the views of Pomeroy and others. The U.S. brought the case at the request of the North Dakota Wheat Commission and other groups. The WTO panel agreed with some of the points raised by the U.S., but disagreed with others. The appeal is related to a WTO finding that the CWB operates within WTO rules. U.S. Wheat growers had charged the CWB violated WTO rules on competition. Date: 5/12/04
