Wyobraska livestock sale notes
The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending March 13 totaled 5,840 head, compared to 5,250 head last week and 5,500 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.
Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold $1 to $3 higher. Demand was good. Direct trade steers and heifers steady on comparable sales, instances of $3 higher on heifers. Trade was slow with demand moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry was light to moderate. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 62% of the supply, heifers 38%, with 71% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1890 head of the total receipts.
