Wyobraska cattle sales

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending March 6 totaled 5,250 head, compared to 6,650 head last week and 8,000 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher. Demand was good. Direct trade steers were $1 to $2 higher and heifers not comparable to last week. Trade was slow with demand moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry was light to moderate. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 63% of the supply, heifers 37%, with 81% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2265 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 410 to 450 lbs., 123.00 to 128.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 118.00 to 121.00; 550 to 570 lbs., 109.25 to 116.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 94.50 to 103.25; 650 to 700 lbs., 91.50 to 98.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 92.50 to 96.35; 750 to 800 lbs., 86.50 to 92.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 85.00 to 88.85; 850 to 900 lbs., 81.75 to 86.50; 900 to 965 lbs., 80.00 to 82.85; 1030 lbs., 78.60. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 395 lbs., 117.00; 465 lbs., 106.00; 640 lbs., 98.00; 750 to 760 lbs., 81.00 to 83.75. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 650 lbs., 95.00; 750 to 775 lbs., 86.00 to 89.50; 775 lbs., 90.50 delivered; 860 to 900 lbs., 84.00 to 85.00.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 370 to 400 lbs., 112.50 to 125.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 113.00 to 123.00; 450 lbs., 111.50; 500 to 520 lbs., 103.00 to 115.00; 550 to 570 lbs., 94.00 to 105.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 90.25 to 95.00; 650 to 680 lbs., 83.00 to 91.25; 715 to 780 lbs., 80.25 to 86.10; 820 lbs., 80.75. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 340 lbs., 112.50; 440 lbs., 108.00; 470 to 495 lbs., 103.00 to 104.75. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 600 to 650 lbs., 90.00 to 93.00; 750 to 825 lbs., 82.00.
