Wyobraska cattle sale notes
The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Feb. 28 totaled 6,650 head, compared to 6,600 head last week and 5,100 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.
Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher. Demand was good. Direct trade steers were steady, heifers were not tested. Trade was slow with demand moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry was light to moderate. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 61% of the supply, heifers 39%, with 81% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1750 head of the total receipts.
